The Girl from Ipanema

The Girl from Ipanema

Today was my second day teaching at a middle school. The atmosphere is completely different than at elementary schools. In elementary school, English is viewed as activity and game time. Most teachers don’t even take the class seriously or care about it. The focus is for students to be exposed to the English language and spend time learning about another country (as well as be close to a foreigner). However, once Junior high hits, play time is over. English becomes…

I Have a History of Taking Off My Shirt

I Have a History of Taking Off My Shirt

It’s been one week. One week since I saw my last cockroach. Now, one week may not seem that long, but considering I was seeing two cockroaches per day, I consider one week a vast improvement. However, I think it’s premature to think they are gone for good, but I sincerely hope they are. Last week was a nightmare. As you know I spent the better part of Sunday fortifying my apartment. Gokiburi Update

Gokiburi Update

Brace Yourself: A Super Long Post is Coming

Brace Yourself: A Super Long Post is Coming

I know, I’ve been so lazy about posting. The worst part is, I only work a few days a week! I definitely have time to write, but I feel like I should instead use that time for studying Japanese. Granted, you can really only effectively study so long everyday. I deleted social media apps from my phone or turned off the notifications in an effort to be more productive. So far, I think it’s working. I mean, I am blogging,…

A Magical Day at Tokyo Disney Sea

A Magical Day at Tokyo Disney Sea

Tokyo Disney Sea is absolutely amazing. I’ve been to a handful of Disney theme parks and I dare say DisneySea is the most beautiful. My friend and I spent a magical day at Disney, complete with all the bells and whistles. Granted, this was now over a month ago, but I just ignore my laziness. I’ve never arrived to Disney early. I don’t think I’ve ever arrived to anything before opening hours. We arrived to Disney about 30 minutes before…

Cock-a-Roaches on My Shoes, Make Me Want to Bust a Move

Cock-a-Roaches on My Shoes, Make Me Want to Bust a Move

“He who is not everyday conquering some fear has not learned the secret of life.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson When I was a freshman in high school, some orchestra friends and I created a hand slap game (think “Down by the banks of the hanky panky). Through the years, I forgot some of the lines, but the last line remains vividly engraved in my memory. It’s also this post’s title. However, this post is not a detailed retelling of my…
