La Fete de la Musique

La Fete de la Musique

June 21 is not only the Summer Solstice but is the National Music Festival, at least in France, anyway. I’m not sure if this is an “official” thing, but every city celebrates it. Even my tiny fishing village of 5,000 people had events going and a live band playing until midnight. My friends kept telling me how unfortunate it is when the music festival falls on any day but Friday or Saturday since people have to work the next day….

On the Street Where You Live

On the Street Where You Live

Before I completely swore of French guys, I started chatting with a teacher I found on a dating site. I actually logged in that day to delete my account once and for all, but I decided to first check my messages. I hardly expected to be completely blown away by a thoughtful, witty, and hilarious introduction message. It was by far the best intro message I’ve ever received. He really took the time to write a personalized and thoughtful message….

Solo Lunch Date

Solo Lunch Date

Solo lunch dates are one of my favorite solo dates in general. Even in the States I would grab my “kindle” (I have a Sony reader which is the same thing) and head to a restaurant. Doesn’t every one have the desire to eat lunch alone sometimes? To treat yourself? To not have to worry about making interesting and stimulating conversation with the person sitting across from you? I’ve always enjoyed solo lunch dates, and after moving to France I…

Sur le Pont d’Avignon

Sur le Pont d’Avignon

Sorry, I just couldn’t help but use the most generic and overly-used entry title or reference to Avignon. This entry is a continuation on my “May adventures” series, which my soon spill into June if I don’t find some blogging motivation. 24 May This was L’s birthday party. I wasn’t “scheduled” to work, but I wanted to go to the party either way. My host parents were grateful that I was around to help them out and be the unofficial…

Hide Yo Kids, Hide Yo Wife

Hide Yo Kids, Hide Yo Wife

So this is the guy that I spent the day with hiking, visiting small towns, and hitch-hiking, which you can read all about here. I met this guy on a dating website, of course. I meet all French men I go out with in one of two places: dancing or online. I really need to stop doing that, because in case you haven’t noticed, it never works out. It doesn’t really matter if you notice or not, it should matter…

Fish are Friends Not Food

Fish are Friends Not Food

So, technically I didn’t go out on a date with this guy, nor is there any chance in hell that I will, but I just had to write about him. I met this guy on Friday at the flash mob. I was preparing to leave (my partner had already left to his house and I was suppose to meet him there) when one of the dancers approached me and started talking to me. He wasn’t exactly the best articulator, or…

Cap Rousset, Ramadan, A “Flash Mob”, and Other Things

Cap Rousset, Ramadan, A “Flash Mob”, and Other Things

This past Thursday I had another beach day. Actually, my goal this past week was to go the beach everyday, even if only for an hour to read and hang out at the cafe. I’m motivated to spend more time outside than staring at my computer screen, hence my back log of blog updates. Anyway, Cap Rousset is the second closest beach to my house. The first is Plage du Rouet, which I guess I take for granted since I…

May Adventures Continued

May Adventures Continued

So here are so more updates from my May adventures. 23 May – Les Baux de Provence & Saint Remy de Provence I spent this lovely Saturday discovering these two small villages that are next to each other in the Alpilles. The Alpilles is a small range of low mountains. I went with a friend of mine (actually it was a date, but more on that later), and for spending an entire day together, I had a great time. We…

Plage de Corbieres L’Estaque

Plage de Corbieres L’Estaque

This past Tuesday I discovered a new beach about 15 minutes from my house. I usually stay around la Côte Bleue, which are the fishing villages west of Marseille. Last Tuesday, while on route to pick up my Serbian friend, I saw a sign for La Plage de Corbieres (Corbiere Beach) about halfway between my house and the port, and I made a mental note to check it out with him. I thought it be a good idea to explore…

The Beginning of May

The Beginning of May

Although I’ve been trying my best to regularly update throughout the week, I’ve had a hard time keeping up with my weekend adventures, mostly because I need to get through all the photo editing. I was pretty active in May so there were a lot of photos to filter through (with a few birthdays thrown in the mix as well). Anyway, here are some photos and short descriptions of some adventures I took in May. Stay tuned for the rest…
